At Bambuyu, we are dedicated to championing sustainability and bringing eco-friendly solutions into everyday life. Our mission extends beyond offering high-quality bamboo tissues; it’s about inspiring a shift towards more environmentally conscious living. By providing products that are both sustainable and stylish, we aim to make it easier for families to make choices that benefit both their homes and the planet.
We are thrilled to have recently sat down with a wonderful like-minded partner, Le Petit Marché. This collaboration exemplifies our shared commitment to eco-friendly practices and thoughtful design. Le Petit Marché’s focus on creating beautiful, sustainable home furnishings complements our efforts perfectly, highlighting how two brands can come together to foster a more sustainable future.
In this blog, we’re excited to share the insights from our conversation with Awatef Zaoui of Le Petit Marché. Sahar Karoubi, the founder of Bambuyu, delved into her journey, the innovation behind Bambuyu’s bamboo tissues, and how our brands align to promote a greener lifestyle. Join us as we explore how Bambuyu is setting new standards for sustainability in the UAE and the inspiring synergy between our brands.
Interview with Sahar Karoubi, Founder of Bambuyu: Pioneering Sustainable Bamboo Tissues in the UAE
Awatef Zaoui (Awatef): Sahar, it’s such a pleasure to chat with you today! Let’s start with the basics—can you tell us a bit about your journey and what inspired you to start Bambuyu?
Sahar Karoubi (Sahar): Thank you! It’s great to be here. Bambuyu started from a personal desire to make more eco-conscious choices in my daily life. I’ve always been passionate about sustainability, but when I became a mother, it really hit home just how important it is to create a better world for our children. I noticed a gap in the market for sustainable, high-quality tissues, especially in the UAE, and that’s how Bambuyu was born.
Awatef: Your commitment to sustainability is truly inspiring. Why did you choose bamboo as the primary material for Bambuyu’s products?
Sahar: Bamboo is such an incredible resource. It’s one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, which makes it highly renewable. It requires far less water than traditional tree-based tissues and doesn’t need harmful pesticides or fertilizers. Plus, bamboo products are biodegradable and compostable, making them a fantastic alternative to conventional tissues. I wanted to offer something that’s not just good for consumers, but also for the planet.
Awatef: It’s clear that Bambuyu and Le Petit Marché share a commitment to eco-friendly practices. How do you see our brands complementing each other?
Sahar: Absolutely! Both of our brands are dedicated to sustainability and providing high-quality, thoughtful products for families. I see a lot of synergy between our offerings—while Le Petit Marché focuses on creating beautiful, sustainable home furnishings, Bambuyu adds that extra layer of everyday eco-consciousness with our bamboo tissues. Together, we help families create homes that are both stylish and kind to the environment.
Awatef: We couldn’t agree more. What do you think are the key benefits of using bamboo tissues, especially in a family setting?
Sahar: Bamboo tissues are incredibly soft and gentle, which makes them perfect for families, especially those with young children or sensitive skin. They’re also naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, which adds an extra layer of safety. And, because they’re sustainably produced, parents can feel good about the choices they’re making for their families and the planet.
Awatef: Let’s talk a bit about your customers—who are they, and what kind of feedback have you received?
Sahar: Our customers are typically people who are passionate about sustainability and making eco-friendly choices. Many are parents who are looking for safer, more natural options for their families. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. People love the softness and quality of our tissues, and they appreciate knowing that they’re supporting a brand that prioritizes the environment. Additionally, our tissues' vibrant colors attract those who want to add a splash of style to their home, a touch of fun to their powder room, or a playful item to their work bags or children's school backpacks.
Awatef: It’s wonderful to hear how well-received Bambuyu has been. Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?
Sahar: We’re really focused on expanding our product range and making sustainable bamboo products accessible to more people. I’m also passionate about continuing to raise awareness about the importance of making eco-friendly choices. We’re exploring partnerships and collaborations, like this one with Le Petit Marché, to reach a broader audience and inspire more people to make the switch to sustainable living.
Awatef: That sounds exciting! Finally, what advice would you give to our readers who are looking to make more sustainable choices in their homes?
Sahar: Start small and make changes that feel manageable for your family. Whether it’s switching to bamboo tissues, investing in sustainable furniture, or simply being more mindful of your consumption habits, every little bit helps. It’s about progress, not perfection. And remember, the choices we make today shape the world our children will inherit.
Awatef: Wise words, Sahar. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and insights with us today. We’re excited to see where Bambuyu goes next and look forward to continuing our collaboration.
Sahar: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure to chat with you. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
