When we became parents to two beautiful children in under two years, we knew we had to make some lifestyle changes to offset the natural carbon footprint our small family was leaving behind. We hoped for Sam & Leia to grow up knowing there are Rhinos, Pandas, and Whales in the world...
We took small steps
We became better at recycling, we started taking reusable bags to the grocery store, we stopped buying single-use plastic and we switched to wooden toys. We gave ourselves a high-five - we were doing so well. Right?
But then the pandemic started
During the lockdown, we noticed JUST how much we consume! The takeouts and delivery boxes arriving filled with plastic pilled up one after the other and we couldn't wrap our heads around what will happen to all this waste once it leaves our home.
We tried to do better
We started ordering from places that provided more sustainable packaging. We ordered in bulk. We bought organic produce and we reduced our meat consumption.
We knew there was more to it
So we did more research. Plastic couldn't possibly be the only evil in the world. We wanted to know what else we can do...and then we came across a statistic that we could barely believe....
27,000 trees are cut down every day around the world to make toilet paper.
How can toilet paper be bad? It's just paper, right? YES! It is paper and paper is made out of virgin wood pulp, which means trees (mature, fully-grown, wise trees!) are cut down, pulped, and transformed into toilet paper.
We started looking at alternatives to traditional toilet paper
We just couldn't find a toilet paper that was eco-friendly but still felt gentle. After all, we wanted something that worked for the entire family including our little ones...We couldn't find the eco-friendly toilet paper we were looking for...so we made our own!
You can learn more about why we chose bamboo here.
We hope you love Bambuyu rolls as much as we do.
